NW Arlington Lions - International Impact

Last summer, NW Arlington Lions established links with PUSH, a youth soccer club based in Bamako, Mali.  The club which was established by a teacher at Kenmore Middle School, provides opportunities for local kids in Bamako, Mali to compete in organized youth soccer.  Games are played on a dirt field in an informal section of Bamako and all of the players come from the local neighborhood.  Given the financial circumstances of the players, there is an ongoing need for funding for equipment and expenses.

This season the Lions will be holding two special events to raise money for PUSH. During the next month or so, you'll find out more about a sponsored ball juggling event, in which we hope many of our Lions players will participate. We are also organizing a fun-filled family event - a soccer game featuring our own Lions coaches, which will take place towards the end of the season. Come and watch your coaches show off their dazzling soccer skills as they compete against coaches from the other teams. Al l proceeds from these two events will provide PUSH with much-needed uniforms, balls, and other soccer equipment.

Additionally, we'll have several opportunities throughout the fall for you to donate your old soccer equipment (Lions shirts, shorts, socks, shin-guards, cleats) to the children in Bamako. The first opportunity will be at the Cleat Swap. If you have any Lions shirts, shorts, socks, or shin-guards that you no longer want, please bring them to the Cleat Swap. If you have old cleats that you no longer want and aren't planning on swapping, please bring these too. A box will be on hand to collect these items.
